Blood sugar management and brain health
For years I’ve been making emphasis on the importance of blood glucose management and researchers from the UK are adding more reasons for that.
In a study of about half a million participants, they found that compared with no diabetics:
Subjects with pre-diabetes have a 54% increase in the risk of vascular dementia and a 42% increased risk of cognitive decline.
The ones with diabetes have a 3-fold higher risk of vascular dementia and 39% increased risk of cognitive decline and a 2-fold risk increase in Alzheimer’s dementia
Interestingly enough, the non-diabetic or non-pre-diabetic subjects showed a greater hippocampal volume.
Taking care of your blood sugar is also taking care of your brain.
