Some unknown benefits of proper insulin sensitivity
In a fascinating research paper from Stanford University, researchers evaluated the effects of healthy and unhealthy insulin sensitivity and blood glucose levels on different systems and multi-omics in the body. Amongst all the findings, I want to highlight the following:
- First, if you don’t have good insulin sensitivity, you won’t be able to efficiently activate your immune system in the presence of respiratory viral infections.
- Second, if your BMI is elevated or you have pre-diabetes, you won’t be able to metabolize polyphenols, which are very healthy compounds.
- And third, if your fasting blood glucose is elevated, you will show higher levels of lipopolysaccharides and a higher incidence of gut permeability.
This shows how important it is to achieve proper insulin sensitivity and to maintain healthy and stable glucose levels.
