It is well known that one of the positive effects of being in contact with mother nature is that it lowers stress levels, and to date, most of the studies have been done on self-evaluation. Recently scientists from Sweden measured the actual stress response in 3 different virtual environments: a city, a park, or a forest, and they found that being in a park or a forest, not only diminishes the response to stress stimulus, but also reduces stress faster, and what surprised the researchers the most was that the smells were the factors that had the highest impact on stress reduction.
